Use of sound effects
The use of sound effects make’s the show interesting and attention grabbing. As only audio is broadcast it is important that the shows can demonstrate what is happening in the studio and make the audience feel included. The sounds can also bring a comical element to a broadcast making it more memorable. For example the denotation of toast popping or birds singing early shows clearly that it is a breakfast show.

Use of jingles
Jingles help signal to the audience that a certain event or regular occurrence is about to begin. Upon hearing the jingle listeners will pay more attention because maybe their favorite presenter is about to come on in that particular show for example the Big john @ breakfast jingle. The jingles also give the Station and Shows an strong identity as it sets it apart from other Stations and for example due to the jingles in a cafe the radio in the background can be recognised as Hallam FM. Jingles also inform people as to what part of the show they are listening for example School years classics is another jingle used in the same show.

Use of vox pops
Vox pops are useful in directly involving the community and
make a healthy relationship between presenters and listeners. They also help
make it clear when different opinions are being viewed. They also make
listening to the shows more interesting as the varied voices make it more
appealing. For example when they hold competitions people call in and give their answer.
Use of interviews
Interviews make things like the news more accurate and varied as witnesses can tell their story in their own way making it more relatable the audience. Interviews in the program itself entertain the audience as the show, if not pre-recorded allows the Lister's to get involved by tweeting questions to celebrity guests etc.

Use of competitions
Competitions help make an audience more attentive when listening as well as increasing the frequency of tuning in. The fact that the station hosts competitions connotes that their purpose is to serve the community they are in and want to brighten people’s days with cash prizes etc.

Use of presenters;
Local presenters are used to make the Lister's relax and connote a sense of familiarity as the accent/dialect is something they encounter every day. The presenters create a casual mode of address which follows the ideology of Hallam FM of being relaxed and entertaining. Also being local they understand the culture differences that make the area unique and this knowledge is enhanced when they communicate to the audience.

Discussion topic
Discussion topics are carefully chosen to be thought provoking encouraging the audience to voice their opinions or act. Usually the topics discuss upcoming events or current affairs making listens more content to tune in to keep up to date on what is going on around them rather than be told things they already know. For example they discuss what happened on X factor the previous night.

How it involves audience
Radio would not be a success without involving the audience as a good station has to cooperate with its audience to make sure it is delivering a service that is wanted and utilised. Via the use of vox pops, interviews, competitions, twitter and facebook the presenters directly interact and involve the audience.

Adverts
Adverts are played at certain times of the day to target their audience for example in a morning a wide variety of adverts will be played as people commute to school ad work where as on a saturday night clubs could be advertised. They also help to promote local business and events.
I hope from this you understand a radio show in a bit more depth than before. Thanks for watching.
